Snap a Receipt tool | Mobile App

The improved "Snap a Receipt" feature boosted on-time expense submissions by 21.8%, reduced incomplete uploads by 25.4%, and achieved a 52% user adoption rate within three weeks.

Background

Torpago is a fintech startup offering spend management solutions and credit card services to banks and small businesses.

Through user interviews, surveys, and customer feedback, we uncovered key challenges faced by Admins, Managers, and Users. Submitting transactions was the most frequently performed task across all users, yet it was also the most tedious and frustrating, both on mobile and the dashboard. Users were unaware of the receipt intelligence feature—a tool that allows automatic receipt matching and submission—leading to unnecessary manual effort.

The design process included brainstorming and mapping the receipt submission flow to enhance user efficiency and ensure seamless offline functionality.

Iteration process exploring different design approaches for receipt capture and submission, refining user experience through multiple versions and layout variations.

Approach

To enhance efficiency and reduce friction in submitting transactions, the "Snap a Receipt" feature needed to be included.

During design iterations and engineering reviews, a crucial question arose: “What happens if a user snaps a receipt but loses internet connectivity?” This shifted our focus to handling failed uploads and ensuring users could easily retrieve their receipts later.

To address this, we introduced a receipt repository within the side navigation, enabling users to:

  • View receipts pending upload.

  • Retry uploads once reconnected.

  • Confirm successful uploads.

  • Cancel uploads if necessary.

This solution provided users with control and visibility over their receipts, ensuring a seamless experience even in cases of interrupted connectivity.
